Creating Your Customer Avatar

You can't hit a target you can't see, and you can't see a target you don't have.

The creation of your customer avatar is one of the first steps that you should take when creating a marketing plan. Let's go through the steps together.

Your Customer Avatar
[ Part 1 ]

The creation of your customer avatar is one of the first steps that you should take when creating a marketing plan. Your understanding and knowledge of your ideal customer will directly impact the success of your marketing and sales of your product and/or service.

This section will challenge you to think about who your ideal customer is - where they live, their income, their relationship status, etc.

This can often be the hardest section to fill out. It will force you to really narrow down who you want to sell to. We encourage you to really put some thought into this and be as specific as you possibly can.

What Is A Customer Avatar?

A customer avatar is a detailed description, or profile, of your ideal customer, the customer that you most want to serve.

This exercise will help you:

  • Get crystal clear about who you want to sell your products and/or services to;
  • Determine how to best market to your ideal customer;
  • Determine what social platforms your ideal customer is using;
  • Be more effective with your digital strategy and online adverting;
  • Refine your website content to better connect with your ideal customer;
  • Better anticipate your target market needs and desires.

We suggest setting aside 30-60 minutes to answer the following questions.

Please take some time to think about each question. It's very easy to say "my target audience is everyone", but narrowing down your target market and being concise about who your ideal customer is will lead to a much more effective marketing strategy. The more precise you can be, the more effective you will be.
