John Howard Society of New Brunswick

The Brief

The John Howard Society of New Brunswick is a registered non-profit organization and charity that has served communities throughout the province since 1953.

Through advocacy, research, partnerships and evidence-based programming, the Society addresses the causes and consequences of crime while supporting individuals and families facing complex social, economic and housing barriers.

The organization needed a professional website capable of communicating this broad mandate to a diverse audience. Visitors include clients and their families, community partners, government agencies, First Nations organizations, researchers, volunteers and donors.

The primary objectives were to:

  • Clearly explain the Society’s mission, history and province-wide role.
  • Organize an extensive range of programs and services.
  • Help visitors find their nearest branch or affiliate.
  • Highlight the First Nations John Howard Societies Network.
  • Provide convenient access to guides, resources and opportunities to get involved.
  • Create a credible, welcoming experience across desktop and mobile devices.
  • Give staff a straightforward way to manage website content.

Our Solution

The Pridham Group designed and developed a custom website using the WordPress Content Management System.

Because the Society’s work encompasses many programs, partnerships and communities, thoughtful content organization was central to the project. We created clear navigation and distinct pathways through the website, allowing visitors to quickly explore programs and services, First Nations initiatives, research and innovation, organizational information and public resources.

The homepage introduces the Society’s mission and directs visitors to three principal areas: Programs and Services, the First Nations JHS Network, and Program Development, Research and Innovation.

Detailed service pages explain the Society’s work in areas such as community capacity building, reintegration, employment, youth services, restorative justice, cognitive behavioural programming, supportive housing and culturally responsive services.

Key website features include:

  • A clear, user-friendly information structure.
  • Dedicated sections for programs, services and research initiatives.
  • A resource centre containing guides, frequently asked questions, record-suspension information and career opportunities.
  • Donation and volunteer information.
  • A protected members’ area.
  • An easy-to-use WordPress editor that allows staff to update content without programming knowledge.
  • Responsive development for a consistent experience across desktop, tablet and mobile devices.

The visual design balances professionalism with approachability. Strong headings, carefully organized content and clear calls to action help visitors understand the Society’s work without becoming overwhelmed by the volume or complexity of the information.

The Result

The completed website provides the John Howard Society of New Brunswick with a clear and credible digital platform that reflects the scope and importance of its work.

Visitors can more easily understand the organization’s role, explore its programs, locate services and access relevant resources. At the same time, community partners and stakeholders are presented with a comprehensive picture of the Society’s experience, partnerships and province-wide impact.

The website also gives the organization a flexible foundation that can grow as programs, partnerships and community needs evolve.
